How I Got To Know Essential Oils
Months ago, I was introduced to essential oils by a friend of mine. He was sharing with me how essential oils had aided his dad in clearing away the blockage in the artery. As a researcher, I started researching on the benefits of essential oils in various journal papers. It is interesting to know that at least 6000 years ago, ancient civilians had started applying essential oils as a natural way of healing one’s mind, body and soul.
My Personal Experience
It happened to me on a day, when my stomach felt bloated as a result of not eating punctually. Coincidentally, I was carrying a bottle of essential oil (Digize) with me. Due to the uneasy feeling, I thought of giving the oil a try by adding one drop into a cup of warm water, as it contains ginger as one of the ingredients. (FYI, ginger is known to be a plant that can warm the stomach and expel cold.) Right after I ingested the cup of warm water, within an hour I started feeling the pain was easing and soon after that, the gas inside my stomach started to release out. The effect was astonishing for me as the first time essential oil user. With that experience, I started to try out different essential oils and I will share the stories with you in my next posts…
What is Wellness to you?
To many people, staying healthy is eating the right foods and exercising regularly.
But how about the personal care, household, and skincare products that we are using? Are we making the right choices in selecting the products we are using?
If you find the below symptoms familiar, Chemical Overload is the cause.
☠ The average woman applies 300 chemicals to her body a day
☠ The top 10 most dangerous chemicals in our home: air fresheners i.e. plug-ins or candles.
☠ Second on the list: chemical cleaning supplies, furniture polish, as well as dish soap.
☠ Beauty supplies and personal care products – hairspray, gel, shampoo, and deodorant are laden with chemicals.
☠ Most deodorant has aluminum in it, and we slather it on our lymph nodes for 70 years.
☠ Many scientists believe aluminum exposure may be linked to Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s disease.
☠ One of the top pollutants is laundry soap and fabric softener – you wash your clothes, it sits on your skin, it outgases in your closet all night long.
That information, is straight from the government, from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Top 10 Killer Household Chemicals Study.
The Solution – Essential Oils
Essential Oils are a better way.
✔ They are totally chemical free, steam distilled or cold-pressed from pure plants.
✔ There’s nothing in them but that one oil, whether it is lemon, tangerine, lavender or others.
There are over a million uses for Essential Oils – cleaning supplies, personal care products like toothpaste & deodorant, in the diffuser, oil-infused nutritional supplements.
You can kick chemicals in your home to the curb by making easy, simple and small changes to protect your family & take charge of what’s in your house.
What Are Essential Oils?
Plants contain complex and powerful substances known as essential oils.
These are aromatic liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, fruit, rinds, resins, and herbs.
These distinctive components defend plants from insects, harsh environmental conditions, and disease.
They are also vital for a plant to grow, live, evolve, and adapt to its surroundings.
Referred to as the essence of the plant, pure essential oils not only protect the plant but also determine its aroma. Essential oils have been used throughout time dating back to 4500 BC. From perfumes and aromatherapy to cooking and medicinal purposes, essential oils have been used in everyday life for centuries. In modern days, research shows that pure essential oils can provide similar benefits to humans and animals that they give to plants.
How do they enter – and how long do they last?
Tests have shown oils reach the heart, liver, and thyroid in 3 seconds when inhaled; they were found in the bloodstream in 26 seconds when applied topically.
Expulsion of essential oils takes 3-6 hours in a normal, healthy body.
Importance of Quality
There is no rating system for Essential Oils.
The closest we can get is an FDA requirement that in order to label a bottle of essential oil “pure” or “therapeutic grade”, the contents of that bottle must contain at least 5% essential oil! Many oils are touted as essential oils but they are actually derived with harsh chemicals, diluted or synthetically produced in the lab.
Before you purchase, check to see if the company grows their own plants, owns their fields, and controls the entire process from Seed to Seal – from the farm to the sealed bottle. Pesticides, pollution, previously owned farmed land & distillation process – all of it can affect the quality of an oil.
Hence it is important to use only Grade A oils as it doesn’t make sense to use an oil to get away from a chemical – and then use an oil laden with chemicals in order to save money.
